The Wild Heifer Estate is part of the Monte Ardila ecosystem — a family of agricultural estates and community projects in the deep Alentejo, sharing values of sustainability, authentic heritage, and meaningful living. Each project is autonomous; together, they form a destination.
Active Retirement Europe
Located on the neighbouring Herdade Entre as Águas, Active Retirement Europe is the first agricultural senior cohousing community in Europe. The vision: 100 hectares of certified organic farmland under a Dark Sky designation, with 1,000 centenary olive trees, 4 km of river beaches, and a self-managed cooperative community.
The journey unfolds in three phases. Experience Stay — a 1-to-7 night immersion to know the place and the community, with farm tours, stargazing, communal meals, guided walks. Extended Stay — 1 to 12 months, renewable, with private accommodation, full access to shared spaces, and active participation in farming, nature activities, and community life. Cooperative Member — indefinite use rights in the cooperative model (cessao de uso), transmissible and inheritable, with democratic governance and a life rooted in community.
The Wild Heifer Estate complements this offering: high-end private accommodation for the Experience Stay phase, retreat space for established members, and a refined heritage experience for the wider Alentejo journey.
